Rosen Graduate Conference

2008 Graduate Conference at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management

The 13th Annual Graduate Education & Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality & Tourism is being hosted in Orlando by the Rosen College January 3 - 5, 2008.  Graduate students, program administrators, and graduate faculty will converge to exchange ideas and information on research initiatives by graduate students as well as to explore contemporary issues and opportunities in graduate education and research.  The conference provides an occasion for graduate students to exchange ideas and interact in a non-threatening way with leading researchers from around the world.

CONCEPTUALIZING AND PROPOSING A SERVICE DELIVERY MODEL FOR CONDO HOTELS - This paper examined the unique aspects of service in a condo hotel property and addressed some of the concerns with this change by collecting information from the perspective of condo hotel managers. A survey was developed and applied to a model based on the American Consumer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). This will add new practical information for condo hotel managers.

SERVICE QUALITY MEASUREMENT IN CHILD: ORIENTED HOSPITALITY VENUES: AN INTRODUCTION TO KIDSERV - This paper proposed KIDSERV as an instrument for the measurement of service quality perceptions of children created through qualitative and quantitative methodology. KIDSERV is a derivative of SERVQUAL which is the most recognized and utilized service quality measurement tool. KIDSERV is designed for practitioners of child-oriented venues.

ECONOMIC IMPACT OF CULTURAL EVENTS: THE CASE OF THE ZORA! FESTIVAL - This study evaluated the economic impact of a cultural event that highlighted the folklore and cultural contributions of Zora Neale Hourston. A Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) for Orange County, Florida was used to estimate the economic impact of this event.

PROPOSING AN ALTERNATIVE FRAMEWORK OF FEASIBILITY STUDIES FOR LARGE PUBLIC TOURISM INVESTMENT: QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS FOR A CONVENTION CENTER IN FLORIDA - The main objective of this study was to propose an alternative framework for feasibility studies. This consisted of an updated, rigorous methodology (I-O Model) to calculate a more comprehensive reality, on what convention centers can deliver back to public and private investment. Data from the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) in Orlando Florida was used for assessing this proposed framework.

Professor Haiyan Song from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University visits Rosen College
 

Professor Haiyan Song, associate director, at the School of Hotel and Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, China visited the Rosen College June 20 - 22, 2007.  Professor Song is considered one of the leading academics in tourism forecasting and tourism economics. The Hotel School at the Hong Kong Poly University is considered one of the top hospitality colleges worldwide.

 

During his visit, Professor Song delivered a seminar on Web-based Forecasting to Rosen College faculty members and research students. He also met with several faculty members and Ph.D. students individually to talk about research projects. In addition, he met Dean Abraham Pizam to discuss possible collaboration between the Rosen College and the Hotel School at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Visit of Professor Seiji Kawamura from the Yagamuchi University
 

Professor Seiji Kawamura, Tourism Program, Economics Dept. of Yamaguchi University, Japan visited (8/31-9/6) to learn about the Rosen College and its cooperation with tourism industries in Orlando. He exchanged opinions with the Orlando CVB and Orange County Convention Center, as well as with faculty and staff at our campus.

September 2007 Research Colloqium
 

The kick off event for the 2007-2008 College Research Colloquium is scheduled for Friday, September 28, 2007 at the Rosen College Campus. Presenters are Dr. Ady Milman, who will discuss Destination Image Development and Dr. Paul Rompf who will address meeting planners' criteria for destination selection.

Tourism Master Plan for Ecuador

 
T
he Dick Pope Sr. Institute of Tourism Studies of the Rosen College of Hospitality Management was awarded a grant recently. This grant is related to the design and formulation of a tourism master plan for the Province of Guayas in Ecuador. The project team consists of Dr. Robertico Croes (Principal Investigator), Dr. Abraham Pizam (Dean), Manuel Rivera  (Ph.D. candidate) and Xavier Ramirez (graduate student).
