Student and Alumni Career Services

Individual Career Assistance

• Career Services offers individual appointments for all students and Alumni. We help students establish career goals, and develop strategies for achieving your career objectives successfully.

We offer self-assessment instruments, print and online resources and directories for career research, résumé/cover letter assistance, interview coaching, networking advice, and help with job searches.

Career Development

Career Development Workshops are presented on many career related topics, including resume writing, cover letters, interviewing skills, networking, business etiquette, and job search skills. Click here to view this semester’s schedule of events.

• The Strong Interest Inventory® is a survey of self-reported interest and skills. The survey will help you understand how your interests and skills relate to the occupational world. This information will be helpful as you decide what courses to take as well as what summer position may be a good next step in your career development.

The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an assessment that helps you learn about your personality, which will assist you in identifying preferred occupations and work environments. Career Services will review the results with you.

Experiential Learning The cooperative education and experiential learning program at the Rosen College requires that all students obtain a minimum of three semesters work experience in the hospitality/service industry, ensuring that your education has the essential balance between theory and practice. Please see Tom Barr, Shara Lee or Suzan Bunn in Experiential Learning for assistance on getting started and requirements.

Career Guides are comprehensive guides to career development for hospitality students. These guides include advice on: cover letters, resumes, networking, interviewing skills, career research, and career fair success.

Job Search Resources

On-Campus Recruiting brings companies from various industry segments to campus to interview students for permanent, post-graduate positions. Graduating seniors are required to attend an orientation to attend an introduction to on-campus recruiting seminar, or see Dave Jenks individually in the Career Services office.

E-Recruiting (Knightlink) Seniors and alumni seeking on-campus interviews with many employers recruiting at the Rosen College need to apply through UCF’s Knightlink e-recruiting system. All seniors are encouraged to activate their Gold Connection account (see Dave Jenks in Career Services to activate your account)

Company Information Sessions: Company representatives visit campus to provide details about their companies and career opportunities within their organizations. Information sessions are often held prior to interviews, and provide excellent networking opportunities for students. Any student wishing to interview with a company is highly encouraged to attend company information sessions.

Employer information tables provide a great opportunity to meet informally with representatives to discuss career options and learn more about the company.

• Annual Hospitality Career Expo Held on February 28, 2008. The Expo will bring over 60 hospitality companies to the Rosen College campus. This is an ideal venue for all students to interact with recruiters, learn about the industry, discover employment opportunities, and understand company cultures.

Permanent and Summer Jobs Opportunities received from employers who are not able to come to campus to recruit. Students respond directly to employers.

Online job search directory Career Services has compiled a listing of job websites and job hotlines for national as well as local employers.

Company Information Files and Notebooks include company brochures, annual reports, and press releases on hospitality/service companies. These files and notebooks provide a nice supplement to your on-line company research.

Hospitality Career Library Career Services maintains a career library with books and materials specific to the hospitality field. Click here to view a listing of career books in our library.

In addition to the resources and services available to you at Career Services, the UCF Career Services office on UCF’s main campus provides services to all Rosen College students.

Career Services at the UCF Main Campus offers on-campus interviewing for non-hospitality industries such as financial services, marketing, and business management and much more. If you are interested in these diverse industries, your Knightlink username and password will help you locate opportunities in these fields who are recruiting through Career Services. Career Services also holds many career fairs and events (see Events section of their homepage to find out what’s happening on campus)
