Deborah
Breiter joined the faculty of the Rosen College of Hospitality
Management in August of 2000. She holds the Central Florida
Hotel & Motel (CFH&MA) Professorship in Convention
& Conference Management and was recruited specifically
to develop the area of convention management in the Colleges
curriculum. Before coming to UCF, Dr. Breiter was the Department
Head for Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management at New Mexico
State University.
Dr.
Breiters career in the hospitality industry began innocently
enough when she was in high school and worked part time as
a cashier in a Chinese restaurant. From there, she went on
to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bennington College
and then spent several years in the restaurant industry before
receiving a Master of Professional Studies from Cornell Universitys
School of Hotel Administration. Her career path took a turn
towards the hotel industry shortly thereafter and Dr. Breiter
spent time as a reservations manager, front office manager,
conference services manager and eventually general manager.Dr.
Breiter earned her Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina
in 1992.
Dr.
Breiter has published in many hospitality journals, including
the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, the International
Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, The Cornell
Quarterly and the Journal of Convention & Exhibition Management.
She serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Convention
& Exhibition Management and the Journal of Human Resources
in Hospitality. She is very active in the Council on Hotel,
Restaurant and Institutional Education (CHRIE), the Professional
Convention Management Association (PCMA) and the American
Hotel & Motel Association (AH&MA).
